Farewell Xfit 101 & Message from Social Ambassador

By: 0

For the time being we will discontinue our Xfit 101 classes. Should the need for a kinder and gentler approach to Xfit resume, we will consider bringing it back to, but for now our last class on Mondays and Wednesdays will be at 6.30PM.

Message from our Social Ambassador, Jason Moore:

Hello All!

Its Jason, your Social Ambassador checking in (finally!). Sorry for my quiet absence directly after the announcement of my new role but I’ve been traveling with work and I’m not a great multi tasker….

Anyway, through my travels I visit a LOT of foreign CrossFit gyms all over the world. In fact, I’ve been to 17 so far in places like Dallas, Austin, Chicago, NYC, Brooklyn, Cayman Islands, Miami, Waikiki, and Los Angeles and there is one thing that they all had in common that I thought our box could be better at… and that’s the social aspect.

CrossFit, by nature, is a much more socially oriented activity than your regular GloboGym. We attend regular classes at regular times, we partner up, help each other, encourage each other, and compete against each other so we are around the same faces quite a bit already. However in our gym, our interaction with each other seems to end at the end of the hour. This isn’t the case in the 17 other CF gyms I’ve visited… in almost every other place, I consistently saw messages on the board like “don’t forget, Sunday is Bob’s BBQ! Bring some beer!” or “Hey guys, its Wednesday so we would love to see you at Compadres for our weekly happy hour”. And you could tell… those members really knew each other… they were friends and genuinely looked forward to seeing each other every day at their box. There was camaraderie, elevated competitiveness, friendly goading and horseplay. These people were REALLY having fun!

I really want to help bring that same feeling to WCCF. I don’t know all of your names, but I want to!

So here we go…

A few months after I became a member at WCCF we did the Century Club which was my first “after hours” social gathering and I had a BLAST! People were talking to people that they didn’t normally open up to (um, beer…) and we were all having fun.

SO! As Social Ambassador of WCCF… if you’re picking up what I’m putting down… if you smell what the rock is cooking… I want to formally kick this sucker off by calling you all out this Saturday at 7:00pm start time (YES, TOMORROW! SORRY FOR THE SHORT NOTICE!) to throw down on the Century Club with me again!

If you don’t know what Century Club is, it is… (read this in Dave Castro’s voice like when he’s announcing the CF open wod)

  • Every minute on the minute………………. for 100 minutes………………
    • 1 shot of beer…………..
    • And……………
    • 1 pull up

It’s a lot of fun, not that hard, and if you don’t think you can do it, then scale it to your “ability” or just bring a lawn chair and laugh your ass off at us doing it. We just want to see you there!

Either way, I’d love to get some feedback and suggestions for other social stuff, and if you would like to host a gathering at your house, winery, or whatever just let me know about that so we can organize.

If you didn’t know, I’m a winery owner/winemaker here in the valley so I’d like to host a group tasting of my Modus Operandi wines on an upcoming Saturday after the morning wod. See, its that easy… your turn!
