Power Of The Positive, Sumo Deadlift

By: 0

I raced in the SF Bay on Saturday morning in an outrigger canoe. Our six person team started at Chrissy Field and paddled east toward Treasure Island. The wind, swell, chop and race course design seemed ALL not to be in our favor. What was to have been a 75 minute race took almost two hours. What was to have been a scenic paddle around Alcatraz was a fight every step of the way, and the biggest lesson came from my mind. In the middle of the race I found myself doubting all kinds or things, like my conditioning, my contribution to the team, etc. And when those negative thoughts crept in my paddling went to crap. It was right then and there that I saw – again – that what we tell ourselves makes the biggest difference. From then on I encouraged myself with positive thoughts. I encouraged my team mates with words of praise. We finished strong and got second place.  Best of all, my injured spine held up the rigor of  paddling.

No matter what happens to you during the WOD, continue to say positive things to yourself and nod your head YES. What you tell yourself is what matters most.
