Virtuosity
There has been much hubub in the gym lately about who was and who was not “really Rx’d” on the benchmark wods, and I’d like to make a few comments on it. First, as a coach, and I think the other coaches would agree, I cannot see every rep that every athlete in a class does. What does that mean? That means I am calling on you to be your own toughest critic. Would you want the rest of class to know that your last rep looked that bad? That your wall ball squat was that shallow? No? Great! NO REP! Lost count? Great ROUND DOWN NOT UP! Virtuosity means doing the right thing when no one is looking. Virtuosity means also calling yourself out if I throw up an “Rx” by your name but you didn’t complete every rep to our standards of movement. If you didn’t do the work, don’t take the credit. I know it is tempting to say that you made a great time Rx’d even though your movements weren’t quite to par, but it only hurts you in the long run. How deflated will you be the next time that workout comes around and you miss a PR by a long shot because Coach Emilie is right over you calling out all of your missed reps? I have missed PRs before and let me tell you, it sucks out loud! So let me encourage everyone to be Virtuous this week. Make sure your chin is over the bar, your chest touches the ground, and your ass hits the ball. You’ll be better in the long run for it.
