Paleo & CrossFit Inspiration
In August, 2012 Christine Guadarrama’s sister and husband sat her down and told her they wanted her to be happy, they wanted her to feel good, they needed her to engage in life. Two years previously her mother had died quickly from a rare cancer; the doctors gave her family the news and her mother passed away 45 days later. The loss left a hole no amount of overeating could fill, and in the ensuing year she gained another 30 lbs. At her mother’s side when she passed, Christine had committed to losing weight and working hard to keep their family together, but the grief and lose were so overwhelming that she couldn’t budge. “When they sat me down I knew I had to find a way forward, and that with their support I could move out of my darkness.” As a family they committed to eating Paleo, to supporting each other with lifestyle changes.
On that day one year ago, and 90 pounds ago, Christine took baby steps to get going with Paleo. She slowly reduced the tortillas and pastries while adding in veggies and proteins. She started coming to CrossFit classes, and finding new capabilities in her body. One year later, the results are astounding.
“People often ask how I managed this transformation, and I always say it starts with baby steps. Folks tell me all the time that they simply couldn’t do what I’ve done, but I know that we are all more powerful than we think. I’m motivated daily by the memory of my mother. In the gym I work hard and dig deep for her, and because of her I’m now moving forward. My family means the world to me, and I’d like to be with them for a very long time. This is not something I’m doing just to lose weight, this is how I live now. I’m enjoying a healthy life next to my loved ones, and even though my mom is no longer with us, my sister and I will keep her in our hearts forever. We made her a promise to work hard and do our very best, and I know she must be very proud.”
Christine, thank you for the inspiration you provide us all.
