Maybe It’s The Sleep….
I’m a 55 year old woman training for international competition. As I’ve shared before I’m also recovering from a total knee replacement. So I’m making my comeback from ZERO.
Training up for competition as a middle aged woman is WAY different than it was in my 20’s and 30’s. I used to be able to do multiple workouts in a day. Now I can do one workout in a day, and a lot of times I still have to rest for a few days before I can even hang from a bar again. Fatigue, soreness and recovery are constant issues.
I like sleep, but I forgot to prioritize it in the current training cycle until I came across this great resource by Tuck. Tuck Sleep is a non-commercial community devoted to improving sleep hygiene, health and wellness through the creation and dissemination of comprehensive, unbiased, free web-based resources. Tuck has been referenced by Well + Good, Shape, Smithsonian Magazine, Harvard University and by many sleep organizations across the web. Read the article on athletes and sleep here. I have incorporated their sleep tips into my life. I already notice a difference in how well I sleep, and I’ll keep you posted on how it affects my recovery. Here’s to better sleep for all of us!
