It’s Never Too Late To Start Weight Training
A lot of people see CrossFit on television or in the media and think “I should have tried that when I was younger, but I’m just too old now.”
But the American College of Sports Medicine now recommends weight training for all people over 50, and have found that even people well into their 90’s can benefit.
After the age of 30 humans start to lose about 3% of muscle mass per year. The only way to turn that loss around is by weight bearing exercise. Studies show that the more weight training one does the better one feels.
With weight lifting, people in their 50’s and up show an improved ability to walk and an ease in performing day-to-day tasks. Risk of osteoporosis or softening of the bones increases with age, and weight bearing exercise has proven to reverse this condition. Weight training can prevent broken bones, provide relief from arthritis, enhance weight loss, and improve glucose control.
The best part is, you can start building muscle at any age!
In short, weight training turns back the clock as the stronger you are the better you feel. What’s stopping you from turning back your own clock? Today is a good day to start feeling like you did in your 30’s! Learn more about how to use CrossFit to build strength at any age HERE.
