Grace and Changing Things Up

By: 0

Last week, I experienced something pretty remarkable. I usually work out in the middle of the day, since my mornings and afternoons/evenings are usually filled with helping you all to kick your own butts! However, special circumstances came up, and I ended up working out one evening last week, for the first time quite a long time.

The effect was astounding. I was JACKED UP afterward – no appetite at all (I’m usually pounding down the door for my dinner) and I was running really hot. It took me FOREVER to fall asleep, and I woke up a few times feeling like my body was burning from the inside out (it wasn’t actually that unpleasant).

Obviously, I am not used to working out in the evenings, and it completely threw my body for a loop. However, with all that I experienced, when I woke up the next morning, I actually felt pretty good! The sleep that I did experience was very deep, and the times I woke up, I just rollled over and went right back to sleep. I also felt pretty ready for my work-out (yes, I went back to my regular time) and performed pretty well, too, considering it was my third day.

The lesson I’m taking from this is that I need to remember that not only do I need to change things up regarding WHAT I do and HOW I do it, but I have to start changing things up as far as WHEN I do it! Constantly varied doesn’t just refer to changing the height of my box jumps or the weight of my kettlebell anymore.

I’d highly recommend to you all to change your schedule up a little bit, too! If you only ever come to the 6 am class, why not try a class in the evening once in a while if your schedule permits. Never thought you could rise and shine enough to make it to the 6 am class? Well, try it and see how working out in the early morning can change your whole day! Let’s make this a gym-wide experiment – who knows, you may just experience a benefit from this variance! And, if nothing else, you’ll get to know more of your fellow CrossFitters!
