Deadlifts & Beth's Birthday WOD
July 8th is my birthday, and I’ll let you guess how old I am! Growing older in this profession is the right fit for me. Even though I have had tremendous set-backs and I’m not where I’d like to be in terms of my own strength and conditioning, being a CrossFit coach means that I keep moving. We always preach that CrossFit is for everyone, and I’m the living testament to this as it’s all scalable. I’ve learned the hard way in my life that we have to listen to the body, and now I stop when there is sharp stabbing pain instead of plunging ahead. Well, at least some of the time……
I’m an identical twin. I spent most of my life in whitewater, doing things like this, and she spent the majority of her life ice skating and juggling. She started skating when we were little, and in high school she learned to juggle. Skating and juggling together became her profession as a variety act in ice shows. Oh yea, she also added rhythmic gymnastics to the mix, and she toured the world until we were 35. That’s when cancer ended her skating career. She does it now for fun, for the love and joy of moving. I love sharing my birthday with her, and when we’re together we always CrossFit, albeit on a scaled level these days.
Thanks for inspiring me daily to keep moving!
-Beth
