Consistency During the Holidays

By: 0

Consistency.

As we are currently fully immersed in the holiday season, we are seeing our schedules fill up with party plans, shopping “To Do”s and travel arrangements.  On top of these factors,  the colder and wetter weather is upon us making consistency to our gym routine even more of a challenge. If we can remain diligent, the benefits of moving our bodies will help balance out the added stress and calories that we often encounter during these months.

Here are some tips to help you stay consistent through the holidays and the transition to colder months:

 1. Change Your Schedule.

If you see your schedule getting too busy to make your regular class time, change it! Get to bed earlier and get up for that morning class. You will feel energized and get to meet new people from the new class time.

2. Set a Realistic Goal.

If you know that it will be difficult to make it to your regular 4 classes a week then set a more attainable goal. Plan around making it to 3 classes a week for the rest of this month, for example. Set a goal that you know you can accomplish.  Exceed that goal any opportunity you get.

3. Plan Ahead

When we take on more tasks in the day, our time management skills can suffer. A simple yet important thing we can do to set ourselves up for success is to ensure that we have all the things we need to get to the gym, ready to go. Pack your gym bag the night before and throw it in your car, just in case.  Make sure to include extra layers, hats and gloves; so weather doesn’t interfere.

Planning ahead is also something to keep in mind with our nutrition. Have healthy snacks or meals prepared so the temptation of holiday treats can be minimized.

4. Get an Accountability Partner or Coach

Find a buddy from your regular class time and keep each other accountable. Exchange contact info and send each other friendly reminders and encouragement. Your coach can also help you out with accountability, we want nothing more than you see all of your smiling faces in class every day!

5. Try Something New!

At WCCF, we have many class options. If you can’t get to your regular CrossFit class, Try Boot Camp or TRX. Again, you will get to meet new people and mix up your regular routine. You could also sign up for a 5K or Go Ruck event. These events are super fun and motivating! Grab your accountability partner and sign up together!

6. Give Yourself a High 5!

Finally, give yourself credit for making your health a priority and don’t be too hard on yourself if you miss a workout. Do the best that you can and enjoy the extra time spent with family and friends.
