More about Johnno Lazetich – Sprints Coach

Grandson to Bill Lazetich (former NFL player of the Detroit Lions) and son to Peter Lazetich (former Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers), Johnno Lazetich – or “Coach Laz” as he is now called – comes from a long line of professional speed and agility talent.

Similar to the grand athleticism of his family predecessors, Mr Lazetich was the former starting fullback for the Kansas State Wildcats from 1999 through 2001. At one time, Mr. Lazetich was the thought to be the #3 fullback in the nation and achieved accolades for both the Coach’s and Ken Ochs Courage awards of Kansas State. He acknowledges that much of his speed & sprinting philosophy came by way of the Kansas State track coaching staff. This staff’s track and field team was known for their 33 NCAA championships and 358 All Americans. His sprinting knowledge further evolved by training with members of the Utah State and Canadian Olympic track teams during his five years at Kansas State.

Post college Mr. Lazetich took the position of the head sprints coach for the Reno High track team. During his coaching tenure at Reno High School, “Coach Laz” attained 3 high school state track and field championships. In 2007 he earned the “Northern Nevada Sprints Coach of the Year” award. In addition, his 4x100m girls’ team broke an 11 year record in 2008 and currently holds the title as the fastest women’s team in Northern Nevada history.

Although no longer an active track coach, he has transferred his title at Reno high from “Coach Laz” to “Professor Laz”.  Now a consultant for youth high school athletes and local CrossFit gyms, he is focused on a primal/paleo approach to fitness, and incorporates that into his speed and sprint training.
