Paddle On The Napa River
We have an outrigger canoe club right here in Napa, and we have heaps of fun on the water!
Every Monday and Wednesday at 5.30PM and Saturdays at 9AM we take the boats out. This athletic event is open to anyone who wants to try it out.
The Napa River is beautiful, and dipping a paddle in the water with five other people in an outrigger canoe is poetry in motion. You don’t have to be strong, or experienced, or even know how to swim. All are invited to try it out. We also have a kids paddling group, so this activity is family friendly and open to all ages.
The outrigger canoe comes from the south pacific, and it was used to navigate between islands in all type of seas. If you’re old enough to remember the TV show Hawaii Five O you might remember the opening scenes every week where the outrigger crashes thru the breaking waves. We’re not lucky enough to have big waves on our river, but we get big tides and winds and it’s all good fun.
As the season progresses we do paddling races in the bay. It’s about fun. It’s about community, and for some of us it’s about fitness. Apply all that CrossFit training to a new activity and join us. The local club is called Ohana Wa’a. In order to go out in a boat you must have a signed waiver on file with the NCOCA. Complete that HERE.
Paddling is my jam. I’ve been doing it in one form or another for the last 40 years. It was my profession for a long time. Now I just love the feel of moving the paddle thru the water. Sometimes I still even get onto whitewater. Please chat me up with any questions you might have about getting out on the water with us right here in Napa!
