Living in (and Enjoying) the Moment
For those of you who have started the Paleo Challenge – congratulations on taking the first step – you are on your way to an amazing transformation in your body and mind! As you begin this journey, you will likely find the first week to be the most difficult, especially if this is the first time you’ve given up such typical meal staples as bread, pasta, cheese, etc. It may be the only thing you can think about and you may feel like you’re going crazy!
Well, don’t fear, there are ways of short-circuiting that programming. It’s all about re-directing that energy to a positive outlet. You want that big, beautiful, ooey-gooey grilled cheese sandwich? Well, what else in your life gives you joy like that? For me, it can be as simple as heading out the door for a walk (either solo or with a friend), settling down with an enjoyable book, taking a trip down the river in my kayak, or even just finding a little project at home that I’ve been putting off (like ripping up the carpet in my living room/dining room!). Whatever it is, by keeping yourself in the moment, and enjoying what you’re doing, you can re-train your brain and begin to lose those cravings. And this technique can work for anyone – not just those of us who have begun the journey of the Paleo Challenge.
So, what activities/hobbies/sports can get your mind into a positive mode? Post your ideas to the comments section and let’s see how big a list we can generate!
