CrossFit Is Community
CrossFit Is Community
Tomorrow we will do the Walter Krumholz Memorial Wod. Most of us at Wine Country CrossFit didn’t know Walter, but he was a part of our greater CrossFit Community. He and Coach Hilary worked out together in Japan when they both called CrossFit Chikara home. Hilary reports “he was so so so nice, and now friends all over the globe are doing a wod in his honor.”
Community means that we care. In CrossFit we support each other. We encourage each other. We egg each other on to just get “one more rep!” Tomorrow we honor Walter’s family and his community by doing his memorial WOD. During the WOD we will work hard. For Walter. For ourselves.
What We Know About Walter
Walter was a member at Chikara CrossFit from March 2013 – June 2015. He came into the gym every day with a positive attitude that brought smiles to everyone’s faces.
Walter passed away January 23, 2017, in San Francisco at the age of 53 with his family by his side. He had been struggling with a very rare disease, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, for close to 15 years.
He will be remembered forever being a good friend to many. Always having an optimistic outlook on life, always available for a good chat, and being a positive inspiration to many in the gym.
Some of Walter’s favorite workouts were team workouts. No matter how grueling they were, he always had words of encouragement to keep himself and everyone else around him going. Walter also was relentless on trying to improve his overhead squat, spending countless time during open gym working with just the barbell.
