Raquel is Bringing Sexy Back!
Happy Friday everyone! To kick off your weekend, we have Raquel with a little guest blogging action!
I’m bringing sexy back…
How are those New Years Resolutions going folks?! Did you set one? I found it a bit surprising when I went into class the first week of January and had two incidents of being the only one to show up (I love our trainers and appreciate the extra attention I got but I prefer to suffer in company… and not being the only focus of Ryan’s hawk eyes – especially when I’m sucking ass at burpees!!). I mean isn’t the norm to set resolutions of going to the gym, eating healthy, not drinking booze? And here I was the only one in class at 0800? Twice no less?! What this leads me to assume is that my fellow Wine Country CrossFitters don’t need no stinking New Years Resolutions!!! We are CrossFitters! We are Elite! We workout and eat Paleo year round! Right?! Errr maybe not…
I love the idea of a New Years Resolution but I find them so stinking hard to keep… I mean first off the usual sayings are : This year will be different. This year I will (fill in the blank)… and to try to do something for an entire year to me is quite a lofty goal and a lonnnnggg ass time. I have a general rule of NOT setting a New Years Resolution because I don’t like to quit and I don’t like to fail, and this year was no different. And guess what, I didn’t fail! Man that feels good.
You know what doesn’t feel good though? Me! I lived it up these past few weeks. And I have excuses of course as to why I did it… really really good excuses! Want to hear them?! Okay, twist my arm! My go to one is that my best friend was visiting from Australia and it is obviously my job to make sure she had a hell of a time (for the record she did – I rule)… my favorite one is because I’m Young Wild & Free!!! Woot!!!… and of course there are a plethora of other ones if those aren’t good enough excuses for you! Anyways, the fact of the matter is now I feel (and look) like a bloated hot mess (I guess I’m not THAT young anymore *sigh*). Those damn trainers and their Paleo Challenges have left my body rejecting all the fun stuff! I remember when burritos, chips, bread, sugar, and alcohol were normal appearances in my diet… and when I ate them my body didn’t reject them and make me pay the next 3 days… ahh the good ol’ days… wait a second… now that I come to think of it this is all Beth and Ryan’s fault ( just kidding!).
I pride myself on being an honest person and most of the time I am pretty honest with myself so I know this is my fault. Frick. I also know I had every opportunity to make healthy choices and I chose not to. Double frick. And it would be so much easier if I could blame someone else, but I can’t. Fortunately my trainers (the same ones who have interfered with my carb and sugar enjoyment) have given me the tools to feel better and get back on track.
Now, I was kind of hoping there would be a Paleo Challenge happening right now so I wouldn’t have to brave this storm alone, but when I asked Ryan about it I was informed there wouldn’t be one for a while. So, I tried recruiting some friends to join me in my endeavor but they generally think I’m high for eating the way I do, so that didn’t work either. So, fellow Wine Country CrossFitters … if you are like me and are tired of that double chin, or of your jeans fitting a smidge too tight, or of missing workouts, or having crap workouts because you aren’t making healthy food and beverage choices, or of not meeting your workout goals (damn strict pull-ups) then I welcome you to join me in a fun and rewarding 30 day venture of eating clean and not drinking any booze (sounds Paleo doesn’t it?!). I’m on a mission to bring sexy back! You in?! Sounds appealing, no?! Well if not (*cough* Scott) then please feel free to check in on me and my progress. And please feel free to yell at me to do my pull-ups at the end of every workout. And if you did set a New Years Resolution or two I hope you’re sticking to it and it’s going swimmingly for you! Happy 2012 folks, be good to yourselves, and I’ll see you in the gym!
Xo, R
As a side note, please keep your eyes on your email box in the upcoming days when Beth will announce a little “Paleo Cleanup” that is coming in the near future!

But kudos to you Raquel for being in the gym…not like me a ‘fraidy cat to get my butt back in there after a long (too long) hiatus. Kick some butt, sister. Not bringing sexy back…just “rediscovering” it! 🙂
