Voices Against Brain Cancer – AKA Beat Brain Cancer Day at Wine Country CrossFit

Two of our very own Crossfitters have recently experienced the devastating diagnosis of Brain Cancer from a care-taking role.  Matt Naumann lost his wife, Sarah, just this last March.  Sarah was diagnosed in September of 2012 and passed at the very young age of 39.  Carlos Heggedorn’s mother Ana, has been battling the same disease for two years.  As Matt and Carlos can both attest, this is a challenging and complicated form of cancer.  The average life expectancy from diagnosis is a short 18 months if diagnosed with the most aggressive form of Brain Cancer – Glioblastoma Multiforme.

Matt has recently become involved with a national foundation, Voices Against Brain Cancer (VABC), dedicated to finding a cure for brain cancer since he lost his wife.  On November 23rd VABC will be hosting their inaugural Join the Voices! San Francisco Run/Walk in Golden Gate Park.  You can join Matt’s team (Team Sarah) and run with him and many others from our Crossfit Gym that Sunday.  You can also financially support VABC by contributing to Matt’s team. Follow the links below to make your contribution or start your own team.

For those of you not able to join Team Sarah in SF on Nov 23rd, we are excited to announce another way to show your support and participate in our community. Next Friday, November 14 we honor those lost and those still fighting the terrible diagnosis of Brain Cancer.  This will be our Beat Brain Cancer WOD.  It’s a beast, but nothing compared to the fight all victims, patients and surviving families have endured.  This WOD is open the public and there will be scaled versions for all who care to participate and support.  Following the 5:30 class we will have a Paleo Potluck for members and friendsThis is the beauty of Crossfit as it goes well beyond health.  We pick each other up.  This is community and what a wonderful way to show our support.
