Alcoholic Drinks & Healthy Eating
I like to drink. I enjoy relaxing at the end of the day with a cocktail in hand, or a glass of wine, or even a beer. Since there are no shortage of drinking options in Napa I’m always in good company!
I also work hard in the gym, and I have goals to meet. Sometimes the desire to have a drink doesn’t coincide with my desire to recover from the god-awful workouts I’ve done for the last two days.
So what are my options?
Stick to the spirits. All alcohol has calories and sugar, but the spirits give the most bang for the proverbial caloric buck.
Have you heard of the Gycemic Index? It’s a ranking that shows us how much of a food item digests as sugar. For example white potatoes are high on the Glycemic Index, while sweet potatoes are low. Wine is high. Roasted beets are higher than raw beets, etc. And tequila is the lowest of all the spirits on the Glycemic Index!
I like tequila and soda with a lime. Some folks just like to sip it on the rocks. Perhaps you want something a little more fancy so please try this Paleo Margarita.
Tequila is the low calorie answer to those that want to have a drink but also want to keep the sugar content to a minimum. Read this for a little lesson on tequila and what to look for when shopping.
Please understand we do not advocate high volume alcohol consumption! We are, after all, a strength and conditioning facility that advocates a healthy lifestyle. But when you want to loosen the reigns, consider this low-cal, low-glycemic choice.
